Equinox Gallery is delighted to present Spatial Abstractions, an exhibition of hard-edge paintings and prints by Takao Tanabe from the 1960s. In these works, Tanabe sought to complicate the shallow space of geometric abstraction he encountered while studying in New York under Hans Hofmann in the 1950s. Incorporating colour, irregular angles, and shifting geometric forms, Tanabe introduced a sense of depth and movement into the precise language of hard-edge abstraction.
